At the beginning of May this year I started dropping resumes off around the Northwestern area of the city, mostly focusing on the mall, the stores around the mall, and the newly developed Hyde Park/Fanshawe area. I was determined to get another job to compliment Pier 1, as they definitely weren't giving me enough hours.
As May passed, I didn't get any calls, despite me returning to a number of places, following up with phone calls, etc. I got rather upset, because I thought I had pretty good employment experience, and was qualified for a number of the jobs.
When June rolled around and I finished school I pretty much gave up on the job hunt. I figured all the places had hired people already, and I didn't have much of a chance. I asked Pier 1 for more hours, and that was that. Then, at the end of June, my boss asked me to tutor her son. I was extremely apprehensive, and I'm still kind of nervous about it, but so far, it's been going pretty well. The extra $20 a week helps too.
Then, just a couple weeks ago my mom couldn't find anyone to give my Oma's old chair to. She put it out on the road, hoping someone who needed it would grab it before garbage day. Well, someone did. And she needed a babysitter for her 3 girls - ages 4, 2, and 5 months. She and her husband own several A&W Restaurants (are they even called that?) and she does bookwork at home. She needs someone quite regularly (during the day - even better!) to look after the kids.
I love babysitting, and I'm also loving God's blessing and perfect timing.
Anyways, that's sort of my summer update. It's been pretty cool.
On a lighter note, is anyone having trouble with earwigs this year? I keep finding them in my room, and I'm not very happy about it. Since I refuse to squish them in kleenex I have to put them in a cup, dump them in the sink, and run water washing them down. A few nights ago I tried this for the first time and when I went back into the bathroom a few minutes later both earwigs were crawling out of the drain. I wasn't very happy about this so I ran boiling hot water down the sink and then plugged the drain. For all I know, however, they could be crawling around outside on the street. Those things just don't die.
Anyways, enough for tonight. I have to head off to Pier 1. :) Adios all and thanks for reading.
P.S. I bought Casting Crowns self-titled album and am really enjoying it. Go listen to "What If His People Prayed". It's good.

Catching up
Hey all.
Sorry I haven't posted in a long time. I've been keeping busy, but I thought I'd take a few minutes to catch you all up this morning.
As you all know, I finished highschool! Very exciting, but now I'm sort of in this nervous stage about the whole university thing. I am very much a perfectionist (and I fully blame my mother for this :P, as she is one as well) and I am constantly worried if I will do well at university etc. Everyone keeps telling me I'll be fine as long as I work hard and do my best. Very cliche, but I'm hoping it's true.
Regarding the whole working thing, I decided to just stick with Pier 1, with some babysitting and tutoring on the side. Turns out the manager at my work who I didn't think liked me wants me to tutor her 6-year-old 0ver the summer. Weird. God has a way of surprising people. I think it was my little lesson to not judge people too quickly, and to not assume people are mad at me, or don't like me. See, I tend to think people are upset with me a lot. I have no idea why this is. I'm often worried that I'm causing issues, etc. I'm sure it has something to do with my perfectionist nature. I know it's not healthy for anyone involved, however, and I think God's trying to help me change.
Another thing I've been coming to grips with yet again is how much more time I need to spend in prayer. I've always known prayer is important, and I try to pray frequently, but it's always been one of those areas where I've struggled. I get distracted, and then I get discouraged when I can't pray for half an hour at a time like some people I know.
Anyways, I was doing my regular "end of school, beginning of summer" closet cleaning, and came across about 4 journals all filled with my prayers from when I was a kid. When I was a lot younger, my mom suggested I write out my morning devotional prayers to a) help me stay focused, and b) help me be able to go back and see what prayers had been answered, etc. It was really a great idea. I thought I'd share a parts of a few of them with you.
God, I'm still mad at Mom for not letting me talk. Maybe praying to you will clear things up. It often does.
God, help me to be ready at 7:30 to start school.
Help Mom to have your strength today and teach really well. Help her not to miss me!
God, thank you for today. I know this might sound really weird, but thanks that Joel did both bathrooms yesterday. Help me to do my chores fast and get on to my book report. Could you maybe influence Mom to take me shopping today?
God, thanks for a beautiful day yesterday... if it's your will, could you make the temperatures stay up? Thanks so much! *wink*
Lol...and it goes on. Some of them are more serious, but some, like those above, just blew me away. I actually prayed about that? Lol. It was actually a good reminder of how we can pray about petty things like the weather, and God doesn't care. He just wants to hear from us. To hear about our day. To hear about the amusing customer at work. I know this is all pretty basic stuff, but but sometimes it's easy (at least for me) to forget. Interesting how God reminds us too.
Anyways, I'm off. Thanks for reading. :)

Updates, and Thoughts about Online School
Well, I figured it was about high time I posted on here again.
In case you hadn't all figured it out, the novelty of the blog wore off really quickly. That or I am so busy with school and work that if I'm not doing either of those things, I'm sleeping, eating, or doing something off the computer to rest my eyes. Lol.
It's been a hectic couple of weeks. I'm trying to finish up highschool for good, and I just booked my last exam so I can now officially say that in 15 days time (which is SO close it's kind of scaring me) I won't be a highschool student anymore. I'm sure THAT will take a few days to sink in.
Before then, however, I have to write a short story, a children's book, a final history essay, make a tourism itinerary website, do a business assignment, do a world issues assignment, do my world issues final project, and study and do 2 exams.
Good fun. Today I'm tackling the short story.
Tonight I'm going to see Oliver! at the Stratford Festival Theatre. For a number of years now (ever since I started) AMDEC has been given free tickets to see one of Stratford's plays at the end of the year. So far I've seen The King and I, Anything Goes, The Tempest, and now Oliver! all for free. Lol, it's a pretty sweet deal, and one incentive to do online school. :P
I've been thinking a lot about my online school experience recently, as I am coming to the end of it, and have decided that just doing online school for all of highschool is not a good plan. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed doing online school, I have earned good marks, and have learned a ton, but at the same time, I think highschool students need the variety. Plus, plagiarism and cheating are much to easy (not that I cheat, I'm a good girl :P) If I was to do it again I'd do more night school and some correspondence too - just to balance out the online. Too much typing isn't good for you. You need to know how to talk and explain things as much as you need to know how to type and write things out. In my opinion anyways.
Anyways, that's my little update for you. Profound, I know. Don't expect much blogging until the 17th though, because until then I'm going to be pretty busy. Adios all and thanks for reading!

Choux Pastry
This and That.. #3 :P
So I've been slacking. I apologize.
The over-blogged-about graduation occurred this week, and it was pure madness getting ready (hence the minimal blogging). I bought a dress, got my hair done, etc. etc. The actual graduation went really well though, and I'm glad I did it. So there you go - doing what you believe you should is always better than what you want at the time. In my personal opinion. When you make the right choice, I think you usually end up enjoying what you felt you should do.
I have 21 days of classwork left of highschool. On June 12 at 3:00 (if not before) I will be done highschool with the exception of 2 exams. 21 days. This is scary. Especially considering the amount of school I need to get done before then. No worries, it will get done, but I'm counting on a few late nights in the process.
I have officially accepted Kings, so unless I get 0% on all the rest of my course work and somehow don't complete a few courses, that's where I'll be next year. I'm pretty excited. I've heard some pretty cool things.
I am job hunting again. It's good fun. Over the course of the weekend I dropped off about 12 resumes around this area, with some promising responses. Hopefully I'll get a call...from someone. Just hopefully not Sport Chek because the irony of me working at a sports store would be too much. :P
That's sort of where I am right now... same old, same old. Now I have to go cook some pastry-chocolate-whipped cream goodness. For school. Yup, dessert for a credit. Not too bad, I'm not gonna complain. Thanks for reading!

Kids are Cute
Hey all!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while...this whole month is an absolute crazy-busy time for me. So, because I don't have time to say anything intellectual, I thought I'd post this cute forward I got a while back. Enjoy!

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small. The little girl: stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.
The little girl: said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah".
The teacher: asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
The little girl replied, "Then you ask him.

A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.
The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."
The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."
Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honour" thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"
Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, "Thou shall not kill."

One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?"
Her mother replied, "Well, every time you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white."
The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, "Momma, howcome ALL of Grandma's hairs are white?"

The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture. Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, 'There's Jennifer. She's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael. He's a doctor.'
A small voice at the back of the room rang out, "And there's the teacher, she's dead."

A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples".
