"Um, Sir, it smells like gas up here..."

So I was supposed to have class until 10:00pm tonight. Obviously, since I am posting this at 8:30, I am not in class (unlike some people *cough* Joel *cough* who used to post blogs in class). So the night went something like this...

Prof: Blah blah blah blah blah (going on about some astronomy phenomenon) ... and if you were to answer this question on the midterm...

Guy: Um, Sir, it smells like gas up here.

Prof: *blinks, and looks a little bewildered*

Guy 2: Yeah, it really does...

Prof: Um... okay, well it seems like several people are smelling it so if that's the case I guess we'll have to evacuate the building (as he says this everyone jumps up and packs their stuff up) and pick this up next week.

....

I proceed outside so I don't die of all that inhaled gas, and as I'm standing there waiting for my ride, I hear Guy 2 start talking.

Guy 2 (to Guy 1): DUDE! I LOVE BUSES! Was that great or what? YEAH!

[EDIT: I am assuming the buses had just got gas and the smell had gotten into the building because of all the doors opening and closing (around 7 hoards of people come in and out).]

Guy 1: *laughs*

Me: *looks at the guys in complete and utter shock*

So yeah. I just paid 50 something bucks for a class that two guys didn't want to sit through.

And that's university for you.

[EDIT: Since then, my astronomy professor has posted on the astronomy course webpage: "Campus police and Physical Plant workers responded that evening. A strong gas smell was detected but no source could be found. University maintenance staff are looking into the cause. We expect that the class will resume at the usual time on Jan 30."

So there you go... the mystery of the gas smell continues...]

A Year in Review

So I thought it was high time to post something on here, and what better to post than a cute little survey about 2006 that I stole from Becky.

P E O P L E

1. Friends? Made some new ones, hung out with old ones - it was definitely good. :)
2. Best boyfriend/girlfriend? n/a :P
3. Lost any friends? Not really, drifted maybe, yes.
4. Gained any friends? Definitely. First year does that for you. :)
5. Met a new good friend? Of course.

P L A C E S

1. Went out of the country? Nope
2. Moved? Nope
3. New school? Yuppers - UWO!! :)
4. How many times on an airplane? Twice - to and from BC!
5. Road trips? Mmm... well if you count the crazy drives my mom and I went on in BC then yes - and oh man, the stories are numerous.

Y O U

1. Have you changed? Can anyone go a year without changing?
2. New look? Not particularly. I'm pretty boring in that way. :P
3. Any new additions? Um, no.
4. Biggest conflict this year? Hmmm.. not sure.
5. Most depressed time this year? I can't think of a particular time, per se... as Becky said, just lots of ups and downs at various times.

S E A S O N S

1. Favorite Season? Usually I would say fall, but because of all the changes in re: to Uni it wasn't really my favourite. So I'm going to say last spring and the summer.
2. Least favorite season? Mmm... probably this fall. It was trying.
3. Good birthday? Well, the actual DAY wasn't that fun, as I got stuck working and they decided to be really mean and stick me in he back all BY MYSELF for the whole night, but the friends and the ultimate surprise party later on made up for that. :)
4. Any snow this year? 2005-2006 winter there was tons, 2006-2007 winter not so much.
5. Highest temperature? Not sure.. but the summer got pretty hot - I'm gonna go with Becky's guess - 35ish?

F I N A L Q U E S T I O N S

Snuck out - Nope.
Met a person who will change your life - Possibly...
Kept your resolution - I don't usually do that whole thing.
Had a first something - Yes, many.
Drank Alcohol - Nope
Smoked weed/drugs? No.
Did anything illegal? I'm getting into the bad habit of speeding... other than that, no.
Had a crush - Yes
Liked someone who didn't like you - Yeah
Lost a family member - Yes
Got bad grades - This is a totally subjective question, but for me, yes.
Suspended - Ha, no.
Moved states - Nope.
Got a myspace - Facebook is the new Myspace.
Started a band - Nope.
Spent over 1 million dollars - If I had a million dollars...
Went streaking - Hah... no.
Done something you shouldn't have - Yes - don't we all?
Kept a secret - Who doesn't?
Told a secret - Possibly...but it would have been mine...not someone elses.
Done something you totally regret - Nothing major. Although I do wish I could go back and do a few first year exams over again.
Changed your view on things - Not so much... possibly on some little stuff.

And that's it! All in all, it's definitely been a good year, 2006. I'm hoping for an even better one in 2007.

Oh, and this couldn't be a year in review post if I didn't end with a quote. So here's one I found that I quite like:

"The ultimate measure of someone is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where they stand at times of challenge and controversy."

So true, eh?
